The Gavel of Haima stands as one of the most devastating close-quarters sorceries available to intelligence builds in Elden Ring. Unlike traditional ranged magic, this spell allows mages to summon a giant magical hammer to crush incoming aggressive foes. Acquiring this powerful tool requires solving an environmental puzzle in the region of Liurnia of the Lakes.

Where to Find the Converted Fringe Tower

To acquire the Gavel of Haima, players must journey to the Converted Fringe Tower located in northeastern Liurnia. This structure sits high along the eastern cliffs past the Grand Lift of Dectus. Upon entering the building, players encounter a sealed doorway accompanied by a statue hinting that erudition will guide the way.

How to Solve the Erudition Puzzle

Unlocking the magical seal inside the tower requires a specific combination of a gesture and armor. Players must execute the Erudition emote while equipping a valid Glintstone Crown, such as the Karolos, Lazuli, or Witch's variants. The Erudition gesture is earned by delivering a spare Academy Glintstone Key to Sorcerer Throps at the Church of Irith.

Performing the gesture in front of the seal causes a hidden magical staircase to materialize. Ascending to the top floor rewards players with a treasure chest containing the Gavel of Haima along with the Cannon of Haima.

Spell Mechanics and Combat Applications

The Gavel of Haima requires 25 Intelligence to cast and consumes 22 FP per strike. When cast, the spell conjures a massive magical greathammer that slams down directly onto target enemies, causing area-of-effect damage. The impact deals massive stance damage and can easily flatten human-sized adversaries onto the floor.

Casters can chain a second follow-up strike immediately after the first swing to extend their assault. This unique capability gives sorcerers a potent tool to control crowd aggression and punish fast-moving invaders.
